Shopee launches online tutorials for sellers
Many of the sellers listed on Shopee are traditional traders or individuals who do not understand the intricacies of e-commerce. Therefore, the platform launches online video tutorials to guide them through the SEO process.
The tutorials are launched in collaboration with FPX, the platform’s official online payment partner. Topics include How to Get Started on Shopee, a step-by-step FPX guide to setting up payments for online transactions, how to maximize online marketing, and ways to fulfill and deliver orders through the platform’s third-party logistics partners. form.
“A lot of our salespeople do it part-time to earn extra income. In fact, one of our best sellers in 2017 was a housewife who had a turnover of almost RM 1 million, ”said Esten Mok, Operations Manager at Shopee.
“This is how Shopee changes people’s lives. Our goal is to help people who want to earn more income by selling products online.
Shopee has been offering workshops at Shopee University since 2016. According to Mok, he has trained around 5,000 salespeople over the years.
The platform launched online tutorials so that potential business owners can learn on the go. “The content covered in the online tutorials will be similar to that in the workshops,” says Mok.
“Our goal is to reach a broader base, as our offline courses can only cater to a limited number of sellers. We divide the content into three categories: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced.
Basic courses will cover topics such as how sellers can register with Shopee, how to sell and list products, and an introduction to the features available on Shopee. The intermediate class will teach how to become a Preferred Seller on Shopee and how to achieve higher sales, among other things.
Advanced courses will be taught by certified external trainers. For example, someone from Facebook could come and teach salespeople how to use the social media platform to reach a larger audience.
Online tutorials will be available on Shopee’s website, under its Seller Center, starting this week. There will be a total of 10 videos, with one upload every week. Some of the videos will cover information on setting up payment gateways, provided by FPX.
FPX is operated by Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet), of which Bank Negara Malaysia is its main shareholder and 11 major financial institutions as co-shareholders. FPX is a secure online payment solution that enables real-time debit of a customer’s Internet bank account with multiple banks.
According to Tay Gim Soon, COO of the PayNet group, FPX is used by more than 18,000 merchants nationwide. It processes 8.3 million transactions per month and Shopee is one of the biggest contributors.
FPX is a significantly more cost-effective payment method than online credit or debit card payments. “We usually charge a flat rate, unlike credit card fees, which are basically a percentage of the transaction value. On average, we should be at least 50% cheaper than credit card payments, ”says Tay.
Shopee is one of the biggest e-commerce players in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. According to Mok, he has more than 400,000 active sellers on his platform. It also works with logistics partners such as Pos Laju, DHL eCommerce and AirAsia’s logistics arm, RedBox.
One of the reasons sellers are drawn to Shopee is its low initial cost as it does not charge sellers any commission or signup / listing fees.
